We want to encourage students of all fields to come together and build real world applications to create positive change. The ultimate goal behind this hackathon is to include not only the engineering and computer science students, but talented students from other faculties.
FAQ
Mahmood Akhtar is a lifetime health science researcher and teacher. He has been working at McMaster University for the past 14 years. His special interests include regulation of gene expression in cell biology.
Kevin Browne is a professor at Mohawk College teaching in the Computer Science & Information Technology program, as well as a PhD Candidate at McMaster University. Kevin's hobby is organizing events for the tech community in Hamilton such as tech show & tell event DemoCamp.
Michael Chung used to run Metacloud corporation. He built the uwallet server and coordinated the builds of the iOS and Android versions as well as consulting.
Dillon Dixon is a McMaster software engineering and embedded systems alumni now working at a health related mobile application company in San Francisco.
Aleli Evangelista is a University of Toronto alumni and graduated with a degree in Computer Science. She is currently working in the software industry as an Application Analyst; her professional work involves solving complex technical problems, and continuously finding ways to improve enterprise-level software.
Chris currently works as a lead analyst in municipal government. Much of his work involves research and analysis of government programs, specializing in technical performance measurement and ensuring that such programs maintain operational efficiency in the real world.
Melissa is currently the Research Manager for a health research program at the University of Toronto where she provides direct oversight for all clinical trials and longitudinal studies in the program. Her specialties include research methodology, project management, policy and protocol development, ethics, technological advances in research, and research administration and operation. Melissa has co-authored and presented published papers on postpartum depression and cancer-related pain.
Konrad Listwan is a Waterloo Math/CS dropout. He started Kira Talent from scratch and has grown it to 20 employees, raising $3M+ in funding, and getting it used by half of the top MBA programs in North America.
Michael “Mickey” MacDonald is a Technical Evangelist at Microsoft Canada as well as a game designer and developer with experience working with start-up companies. Growing up, he enjoyed playing video games, which is what inspired him to start creating his own. He studied Video Game Design and Development at triOS College. He has also founded a video game company called Karma Labs. In his spare time he enjoys “researching” video games and has been described as the “Slayer of Bacon,” for obvious reasons.
Afzal is the Lead Android Developer and main analyst at Kiwi Wearables. Kiwi Wearables develops motion recognition algorithms. He has been developing for Android for 4 years, contributing to numerous open source projects along the way.
Kenneth Owen is a PhD candidate and a hacker. His research investigates the core drivers that make hackers explore the things that they explore. He has over 20 years of experience in the commercial internet field including starting one of Canada's first ISPs in 1991.
Justin Policarpio is the new Manager of Student Entrepreneurship at McMaster University. He's spearheading Spectrum, and initiative focused on discovering, supporting, celebrating, and sustaining student entrepreneurship.
Cameron Taylor is a Masters Student in the Communications and New Media program at McMaster University. He is specializing in the optimization of game sound through machine listening and the creation of interaction of highly interactive virtual sound environments. He is also a current member of the McMaster Cybernetic Orchestra, a group who code music for live audiences.
We're bringing in students from around Ontario to come together to code for change.
deltaHacks is going to take place over 24 hours. We're planning a weekend full of workshops, learning and fun events.
We'll be providing awesome free food and snacks so you can focus on coding and creating!
